Rescued!

A few years ago, Mom heard an odd sound coming from our swimming pool.  She went to the windows to look and noticed that there were ripples in the pool.  She promptly went outside to see what it was, and discovered a wild Mynah frantically trying to avoid drowning.  She reached in and grabbed the poor soaked bird, and set him/her on the deck.  She called me to come out and as I opened the door, Mango charged – something she rarely does and ran under the open door outside.  Now we had two Mynah birds outside!  She quickly scooped a bewildered and scared Mango, then brought her inside.  That left me with the wild Mynah, who was obviously still in distress.  I tried to gently pick him/her up, but the bird was scared and quickly hopped away from me.  When Mom returned, she distracted the little one and I expertly caught her with both hands, as we did not want to leave him/her in the pool area as Lucky has been known to chase wild birds.  The poor bird began shrieking at a volume that would wake the dead!.  I quickly carried him/her outside to the grass and let her go gently, and was thanked with a quick swipe trying to get me.  Mom saw the little one later while leaving for work, so we assume it survived the encounter.

It all happened so fast we didn’t have time for a photo. I had never held a wild Mynah before; that was an experience I will remember for a long time – especially that horrible scream!
